How to read the results
Engagement rate shows how large a share of your followers interact with your content. A figure that rises over time usually means your content is becoming more relevant to your audience.
There is no benchmark that applies to every account. Platform, niche, account size, and content format strongly affect the figure, so use this result to compare similar accounts or to track your own account.
Formulas used
- Total interactions = likes + comments + shares + saves
- Average interactions per post = total interactions / number of posts
- Engagement rate per post = average interactions per post / followers x 100%
- Engagement rate relative to followers = total interactions / followers x 100%
Some sources calculate with reach or impressions as the divisor instead of followers. Those results cannot be compared directly with the figures from this calculator.
Frequently asked questions
What is engagement rate?
Engagement rate is the ratio of the number of interactions (for example likes, comments, shares, and saves) to the number of followers, expressed as a percentage.
What is a good engagement rate?
There is no single number. Averages differ by platform, niche, account size, and content type, and the way it is calculated also differs between sources. A fairer comparison is similar accounts in the same niche, or your own account’s performance over time.
What is the difference between engagement rate per post and relative to followers?
Per post uses the average interactions of one post divided by followers. Relative to followers uses the total interactions from all measured posts divided by followers. For a single post, the two are the same.
Do I have to fill in shares and saves?
No. Both are optional. Fill them in only if your platform shows them and you want to count them as interactions.
Is the data I enter stored?
No. All calculations run in your browser, with no login, and the numbers are not sent to our servers.
